DIANA

Chapter 1

Scene 1:2

“Mom l am fade up OK! I told you last year that school is not my thing and you know it. I am not good in Sciences and the course you and dad chose for me is just not what I want. I don’t want to be a Doctor. I have been failing at the university for the past 1 year. It’s so frustrating, imagine all the carry overs. Please mom and dad set me free. I am a good author and artist. Please set me free”

“Young lady as long as you live under our roof you will do as we say. This is our family standard, everyone will be a Doctor or nurse or pharmacist as long as your skills will be utilized in our family legacy. Glass Block Hospital is our blood and sweat. Your mom is our pharmacist, your brother and I are doctors, your sister will be a Doctor soon”

“Honey l am just tired of Diana’s stubbornness, she is trying so hard to be the black sheep of this family! Young lady l told you this more than a million times, if you want to be an artist you can’t do it as long as you live in this house!”

“Yaaah! Maybe you are right, yes, you are right mom” Diana burst into laughter as she went to her room leaving everyone baffled.

In her room, she quickly packed a few possessions of hers including her laptop (she couldn’t survive a day without it) into two big suitcases. She dragged the suitcases out of her room and the noise attracted all the pair of eyes in the house.

“Where do you think you are going?” her father asked in a compassionate manner.

“Honey let her go, since she thinks she is so grown up. Young lady, if you step out of that door never think of stepping your foot here again!”

“Okay mom”

“If my memory serves me well, you never bought anything you are carrying. So leave everything before you go”

“Okay mom” She said leaving everything including her phone and laptop. Her father told her to take at least the phone, “No Dad let mom have everything” were her words as she marched out of the house like a wounded Buffalo. She looked at her car, felt like taking it with her but dismissed the thought.

Days passed and Diana never went back to her parents. Her father started to get worried,

“Has anyone heard anything from Dia?”

“l am now starting to think that maybe sending her out of the house wasn’t such a good idea”

“Are you for real mom! Are you just realising that now?” asked Darlington Smith (Diana’s brother) “Maybe if you weren’t so pushy my young sister would be here. Mom, don’t you get tired of making people dance according to your tune?”

“How dare you talk to me like this!”

“Darling please calm down. Dineo please go and answer the land-line” Mr Smith (Diana’s father) cleared his throat before continuing, “Maybe we should call grandma and ask about Diana”

“No Daddy grandma loves Diana so much, remember her blood pressure” said Darlington.

Deneo called out to her mother. Grandma was the one who had called the land-line. Thelma (Diana’s mother) dashed off to the living room to talk to grandma. After exchanging their greetings and talking about their stuff, grandma,

“If you don’t mind may I talk to Dia. I want her to come over for the weekend.”

“Ummm….. umm… she… she. She visited a friend for somedays. I will tell her you called once she comes back. Did she call you this week?”

“Okay child. Come to think of it she hasn’t called me and that’s unlike her. She doesn’t spend a day without calling me. I will visit you on Tuesday maybe she will be back by then.”

The family was worried to death as they pondered on what to tell grandma. Tuesday was just two days away.
